Hardiplank (cementboard)
We are in the process of getting bids to have our house re-sided with Hardiplank (commercial name for cement board). Has any one used it and if so, how do you like it? Also, does anyone have any experience with or knowledge of Exterior Solutions, Inc. They are the company we are most seriously considering hiring to do the work.
Thank you, Dan & Margaret Jones
Hardiplank is an excellent product that won't rot. the only issue that I am aware of is if it is not blind nailed and you don't plan on painting it you will see all the stainless steel nail heads.

Hi, Dan and Margaret.
The contractor who replaced our roofing in the summer of '05 also re-sided our dormers with Hardie (shingle) siding, and I've used some on my own as well. The main attributes as I understand them are durability, resistance to color fading and warping and general appearance. Hard to judge performance in such a short time, but we're certainly pleased.
I'd also strongly recommend the aforementioned contractor, based in Framingham, whose owner (Jim) was highly responsive and flexible, eager and generally a very good guy:

Good luck with your project!

My friend in Oregon, replaced all the defective hardboard siding on his house with this stuff (he did the work himself) and other than needing a few new tools, he said he was very happy with the siding.
