Using the Framingham Wiki

Making a Recommendation or Comment

The easiest way to make a recommendation is to send an email to Wiki Tech Support <>. Learning how to write in "Wiki" can be time-consuming and challenging. If you'd like to try to learn, see the section below called Adding to the Framingham Wiki

Guidelines for Making a Recommendation or Comment:

  1. Who should make a recommendation or comment? Customers and professionals with personal experience with the person/business being recommended. The Wiki is not the place to plug your own business or those of friends, family members, business acquaintances etc., except through the Framingham_Community_Network Page.

  2. What information should I include in a recommendation? (See below for restaurants)

    1. The name of the business/person you are recommending
    2. Address (not necessary if the person comes to the home to provide services)
    3. Phone number, website and/or e-mail address, as available and appropriate
    4. Your recommendation. It is helpful when you are as specific you can be about why you are recommending the person or business. If you are, in addition to a customer, a family member or friend of the person being recommended, please state that in your post.
    5. Your first and last name.
    6. The date you are making the recommendation (I know it is in the e-mail. It just makes posting easier.)
  3. What additional information should I include for a restaurant review?

    1. Please include the price range and the various types of restaurant categories it might fit into. Be as specific as possible in your review. For restaurants, the details can make a big difference.
  4. What if I have a negative comment to make?

    1. Negative comments are fine, but avoid inflammatory language or name-calling. Stick to the facts about what happened in your particular experience.
  5. What if someone has made a negative comment about my business?

    1. You may respond with a rebuttal of specific comments and send to Wiki Tech Support <>. Avoid inflammatory language or name-calling. Stick to the facts about what happened in your particular experience. Reference the particular comment you are referring to, as the rebuttal will be in italics under the original comment.

    2. People are entitled to their opinions. Feel free to ask satisfied customers to make positive comments about your business.

Adding to the Framingham Wiki

Feeling adventurous? Before you go crazy editing pages, here is a safe way to get started.

  1. Login (see top of page) creating a new account if needed. Don't worry too much about the long list of settings, just get a name and a password to get started. Then get back to this page.
  2. Check out HelpForBeginners and HelpOnGraphicalEditor.

  3. Create your own home page, following the directions below. (There are instructions imbedded in the page about what to do once you've created a page.) Enter the page name, which is your name with no spaces, plus the word "Homepage (i.e. FirstnameLastnameHomepage) in the text box and click "Create New Page". After you get to the new page, click on Edit(GUI) to edit your page.

    1. You can get back to your page through the Framingham_Community_Network page by clicking "View Home Page List" or through the FindPage tab.

    2. Good luck!!! E-mail Wiki Tech Support <> if you get stuck!

Please take the time to master the basics first! If you want to start a wiki project beyond your own home page, send an email to Wiki Tech Support <> and we'll help you get started.
