Civic League

Concord Street in Framingham

What about the Civic League on Concord Street in Framingham. It's a Framingham land mark that has been refurbished and Disney did a movie there and repainted and put in new drapery's. The main room is really beautiful now. It's also very reasonably priced. There is kitchen facilities, amply parking across the street and plenty of room for dancing and to enjoy a memorial event. This is all on the first floor, handicap ramp to get in and handicap bathrooms and others on same floor. To find a good place, reasonable priced gives you more money to spend on your kid and your dress. The New Civic League is the place to consider for you and all your friends and family to remember.

I would recommend the Columbus Club at 11 Fountain Street. The food is excellent and the prices very reasonable. Call Janet at and make sure you tell her I sent you.

I agree with the Village Hall suggestions for all the positive reasons stated. I have attended 4 spectacular weddings there. And other events as well. The primary challenge is accommodating anyone who needs assistance getting to and from the second floor, which can be managed in many circumstances. (This issue will be addressed in the long range plans for improvements to the facility.)

I had my wedding reception at the Village Hall, which is the pretty columned building facing the Framingham town common. It was a huge hit with the guests, and the historic nature of the building made it much more special than a hotel, in my opinion. I believe that it is about $500 to book it on weeknights and $1000 on Friday/Sat nights-- not sure though. You get a discount if you are a Framingham resident. Their website is http://www.historicvillagehall.org/ <http://www.historicvillagehall.org/> and the phone number is . The capacity is 180.

I thought I'd respond to your concerns about the Village Hall since I had similar concerns before my wedding reception and other events I've planned there.

1. Food is prepared downstairs and has to be walked upstairs. The time this takes may result in food being cold and/or people being served very slowly.

Never a problem. Caterers in the area have all worked there before, and food was piping hot and served promptly.

2. If you have Elderly relative there is no elevator. Even if you could get them upstairs, the bathrooms are downstairs making this uncomfortable for folks that have issues with walking.

This was our biggest concern and I think that it is the biggest problem for the hall. We had our appetizers passed around downstairs in the reception area, and then everyone moved upstairs for dinner and dancing. The elderly relatives were warned of the bathroom situation ahead of time and I think that they planned accordingly. Also, we put another relative in charge of helping them get up and down the stairs. They did fine, but it would be very problematic if you have someone in a wheelchair.

3. The room is small, so that even though it could seat 150, it would be a VERY tight fit.

We had 180 at our wedding and it was fine! We did have 2 or 3 tables that the young folks were sitting at collapsed and removed after dinner was over to provide more room for the dance floor.

4. The D.J and any other equipment decorations has to be walked up the stairs.

I really don't think that this will be a problem. Even though Ginny mentioned that she thinks that DJs might not be allowed there, I am almost certain that is no longer true and that they are fine. These people are professionals, and getting up a flight of stairs should be no problem for them. I saw pictures of an Indian wedding that took place at the Village Hall, and they had elaborate decorations including all sorts of canopies brought in and installed in the upstairs room. All of these type of professionals have probably had much greater challenges with remote outdoor locations, etc.

The bottom line from me is this: this is a gem of a building and it will be so much more special and memorable than a hotel-like facility. Also, the pictures will be wonderful to look at afterwards. Any inconveniences will be easily dealt with by the professionals you hire. For me, the only deal-breaker would be if you have guests in wheelchairs.

Just my two cents!

How about the Village Hall in Framingham Centre! This is a very elegant historic building with a grand foyer, full function hall, separate room for hors doevres and bar, full service kitchen and ample parking. It's easy to direct your guest there, on Edgell Road just a block north of Route 9.

Not to mention that when you rent the Village Hall, you are supporting a non-profit Framingham organization, the Framingham Historical Society and Museum!
