Mazie Foundation

Twice a year there is a fund raiser recycling event at the High School.

Sponsored by John Andrew Mazie Memorial Foundation Mentoring Program for Framingham High School Students

Here's how it works!

WE – contract with a licensed professional recycling company and pay them to collect the items you bring, shred the hard drives, salvage metals, send plastic, glass, etc. for recycling and dispose of toxic materials (such as lead and mercury) in an environmentally responsible way.

YOU – give a donation to the Mazie Foundation:

CRT Monitors: $15 ea.

Desk Top or Lap Top Computers: $10 ea.

Printers or Fax Machines: $10 ea.

Other electronic devices: $10 ea.

Keyboards, Mice, Small Speakers: FREE

FREE Peet's Coffee and Dunkin Donuts!

Computers contain very toxic materials including mercury, lead, cadmium and flame-retardants, which if released into the air and water, are very toxic. The average computer monitor contains 6-8 pounds of lead. Recycling is an environmentally responsible way to dispose of your old computer, monitor, printer, fax machine and other electronic equipment.

Area residents and businesses are invited to take advantage of this opportunity to help the planet and support this community-based effort!

Note: most towns charge $25 per item to recycle computer components.

Stapleton School

Hi, One thing you can do is to bring old cell phones or printer cartridges to Stapleton Elementary school or give them to a student you know that goes there. Stapleton participates in a program where the phones and cartridges are sent to be recycled and receives money in return to purchase new technology.

I believe that there are other schools that participate in this program, but I'm not sure which they are. PTO members from other schools are welcome to chime in...

My understanding of the program is that the company that takes the phones will recycle the whole phone if possible, or any reusable parts. Printer cartridges are reloaded and resold. Stapleton has received over $10K from this program in the last 4-5 yrs. Regards, Andy Limeri

The Drum Connection

PO Box 1311 Arlington, MA 02474 http://www.drumconnection.com

The Drum Conncection (a local hand drumming school) accepts donations of working GSM (cingular, att, t-mobile) cell phones. Chargers not necessary unless you have them easily available.

We bring them to Guinea, one of the poorest countries in the world, where they have hardly a landline. The way the people in tribes there contact loved ones is with these cell phones. It is a life-saver in so many situations.

Out of such a poor country comes some of the richest music, warmth and laughter it's amazing!

If you would like to donate GSM cell phone to us please reply to: and we will give you a Framingham drop-off location.

Thanks for your consideration.

Wayland Travel

Commonwealth Cafe,

They accept cellphones. They give them to a domestic abuse-related program, which I can't remember the name of.

Thanks for the reminder about Whole Foods and batteries. I've got some batteries to get rid of.
