Absolute Car Care
91A Grant Street, Framingham,
(508) 820-9323
I recommend John Lincoln of Absolute Car Care, located at 91A Grant Street in Framingham, (508) 820-9323. He is one of the two owners and an excellent mechanic. I have been very satisfied with his work.
When you drop off your vehicle, if you live in the area, he will drive you to home/work and pick you up when your vehicle is done, a very convenient service.
I highly recommend Absolute Car Care.

Butch & Son Automotive
9 Old County Road in Sudbury
978-443-8307
My family and most neighbors go to Butch & Son Automotive in Sudbury. Tommy (the son) is great. Is very, very good at what he does, extremely honest (if you don't need something done, he'll tell you) and very reasonable.
His number is 978-443-8307. They're located at 9 Old County Road in Sudbury. It's right near the Sudbury/Wayland line behind the car wash.

D.F.C. Auto Service
73 Waverly Street

I have used D.F.C. Auto Service on 73 Waverly Street - next to the "new" storage space. Very reasonable and more importantly - they will not sell you something you don't need. I believe they specialize in transmissions;

Gleason's
(508) 879-5613
Gleasons near the Framingham train station is competent, eminently reasonably priced, and honest. Only drawback is he doesn't work weekends but he starts very early in the morning weekdays. Rich Gleason is the owner.

Greg's Repair Service

(For someone specifically requesting VW repair) Greg specializes in Volkswagens and brought many a smile with his low price for fine service of our Beetle.

Meineke
I've used the Meineke shop on Rt. 135 near the Natick line for years. Used to be owned by a guy named Tom, who kept The New Yorker in the waiting room. The current owner favors car mags, but they still do a good job and are still on the on the up-and-up. Gave me a discount after the last job took much longer than expected.

Midas
Regarding Mufflers The important thing is who to *not* go to. Do *not* go to Midas. The Midas touch is to weld all components together. This means that when any of the components burn out on the exhaust system, the entire thing has to be replaced. They've been pulling this scam for years.

Murphy's Automotive
I didn't see a recommendation for Murphy's Automotive, right in Saxonville on Water St. I use them because I can leave the car and walk home, but they also do very good work. I'm not an expert, but do enough amateur car repair that I can tell when guys know what they're doing. They're not cheap (is anyone in this area?), but extremely thorough. They won't let you slide through an inspection with marginal equipment--which can be both a boon and an annoyance, I admit.

I live right around the corner from them and use them for almost all of my car repairs. They are excellent and thorough. I have never had any complaints in the 14 years I've been going there.
I would suggest that you make an appointment in advance to get the work done though. They are extremely busy and "walk-ins" get squeezed in when they can. This may only be a temporary situation for them as it is summer and some of the guys are taking vacation.
I realize that this is not always possible as was my situation last month. I had a "walk-in" emergency that required a replacement of the radiator/hoses and repair work to the right front axel and was without a car for 4 days.
I highly recommend them though for their professionalism and thoroughness.

I have been using Murphy's Automotive since they opened and have been very satisfied. Over the years I've noticed a very low turn over of employees, most have been there as long as I can remember, a good indicator the employees are happy, happy employees generally provide better service and attention to detail.
If you want it done right, interact with honest and courteous individuals and not worry about being over charged, this is the place.
My only hesitation of recommending them is I don't want them to become so busy I cannot get an appointment!

Patriot Automotive
316 Boston Post Road Sudbury, MA 01776
978-443-2051
Gregg Canavan at Patriot Automotive has been repairing all my cars for over 15 years. There is no one more honest or talented that I have ever seen; and I have been dealing car repair since the Johnson administration. (That's Lyndon, not Andrew.) Gregg always stands behind his work, and he refuses to do work that he thinks is not in his customers' best interests.
Gregg's shop is on Rt. 20, on the Framingham-Sudbury line, not far from Sudbury Farms; so it is convenient to people on the north side of Rt. 9. Tell him Marty sent you, and I promise you will be treated well.

Ron's Tire & Services Inc
(508) 872-2266 http://www.ronstire.com
45 Waverly St Framingham, MA 01702
Ron is a great mechanic with a great deal of integrity. His pricing is very reasonable, and, in 17 years, have never had a complaint about the quality of his work. He'll make an effort to squeeze you in if he can, even when he is busy, if the need is dire enough. "No problem, we'll take care of it," he always says. And he always does. For somethings, he sends them next door to his brother-in-law at Tosti's, which also is a great shop.

Speen Street Automotive
150 Speen St
(508) 620-0005)
For Mufflers
I used Speen Street Automotive, at 150 Speen St ((508) 620-0005), for the first time yesterday. They got six excellent reviews on Angie's List.
So far so good: they were pleasant, got back to me quickly with the diagnosis, and spotted three things that would have made the car fail inspection next week, including a rotted exhaust pipe. I plan to keep using them.

Suburban Shell
508~875~9333
In my mind there is no one more honest, reliable, fair priced than Ed Morriaty at Suburan Shell on Old Conn. Path. It's an owner operated service station and Ed has been there for almost 30 years. They also do stickers and you get a free car wash with a sticker inspection. Also one of the lowest gas prices around. How can you beat all that?

Sudbury Automotive
978~443~7374 209 Boston Post Rd Sudbury, MA At the corner of Landham on Rt 20.
Pat Bond runs the place and does excellent work. Not only he but also his employees act like they're automotive engineers (as opposed to grease monkeys). Great work. And Pat runs the place like a well oiled machine. BTW, Pat fixes everything but he jas a real passion for BMWs.

Try the Getty station at the intersection of Rte.9 and Rte 16 in Wellesley. Larry Ng is the owner and he really knows Hondas.
