Absolute Car Care
91A Grant Street
Framingham
(508) 820-9323
I recommend John Lincoln of Absolute Car Care, located at 91A Grant Street in Framingham, (508) 820-9323. He is one of the two owners and an excellent mechanic. I have been very satisfied with his work.
When you drop off your vehicle, if you live in the area, he will drive you to home/work and pick you up when your vehicle is done, a very convenient service.
I highly recommend Absolute Car Care.

I use Absolute Car Care, they are honest and do good work. They are near downtown, corner Grant and Clark St next to Lifeline. John Lincoln and Mike run it. I have three vehicles and they do all the work.

I have been taking my Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo to Bob Gooch at Ashland Service for years. He does a good job and is fair-priced. He also has a free loaner- kind of a clunker but it gets you where you need to go! My car now has 200,800 miles on it and it is still in good shape. I did have to get a new Transmission at 90k - Bonded did that.

My family and most neighbors go to Butch & Son Automotive in Sudbury. Tommy (the son) is great. Is very, very good at what he does, extremely honest (if you don't need something done, he'll tell you) and very reasonable.
It's right near the Sudbury/Wayland line behind the car wash.

I brought one of my cars there for a sticker. They were very polite. I was comfortable in their waiting area while they did the inspection, all very gemütlich. Then they came to me with an inspection failure and about $1000 worth of emission stuff. It is a fact that the emission testing system in this state is massively out of control, but that's not the question. The icing on the cake is that I then took the same car to another place to get a sticker and the car passed with flying colors. I have no idea how they do on service but I know I'm not going back there for a sticker.

My wife and I have had nothing but fantastic experiences with Central Automotive and continue to use them for all of our car repair and inspection, etc. needs. They even let us keep an older car there for over a week once while we decided between having it repaired or moving on to a new car. When we decided to go the new car route they did not charge us a dime, for either storage or for the diagnostic work they had done. We have nothing but extremely positive experiences with Central Automotive and give them an exceedingly positive recommendation.
Bob Berman 8/31/2009
I have been to Central Automotive a number of times and have had very good experiences there. When I went there with my previous car, they helped me come to the realization (in a nice, constructive way) that fixing it's myriad of problems would not be cost effective, even if the work was done in stages to prioritize safety issues first. Basically they turned down ALOT of work. I bought a used car, and have been there for oil changes and regular maintenance since then. They have always been really helpful keeping up with what needs to be done at each mileage check, and what might be needed to be taken care of the next time. I have been pleased with the quality of the work that I have had done there, and trust them to not recommend unnecessary things. The waiting room is comfy and staff is attentive and polite. I highly recommend them.

body shop 508-879-8385
I just had yet another typical experience having my car repaired for nothing at Colonial Auto on the corner of Rt 20 and Union Ave in Sudbury. My family has been taking vehicles there longer than I've been driving. Jerry has always taken great care of us doing excellent work for very reasonable rates. His partner, Dick, runs the auto body shop attached to the garage. I would highly recommend them if you ever need any auto repair done.
Oh, and how did I get my repair for free today? The terrible noise I heard turned out to be nothing major. Jerry showed me where I need to regularly oil a rod and sent me on my way. I tried to pay him but he wouldn't take it. He has looked at lots of things for me without charge over the years - if it's not a big deal (or he can't find the problem) he's not going to charge you. I had a terrible electrical issue he just couldn't track down a while back - eventually he sent me to Marlboro Electric to solve and never charged me a dime. Usually of course he does get paid after doing his usual excellent work - well worth every penny.
Bill Greenberg 9/18/09
I have to echo Bill's comments, I have taken cars to Colonial Auto for years as well. Recently, I was looking for a used car for my daughter. I brought it to Jerry who looked it over and found a lot of body rot. He advised against the purchase. I brought a 2nd car for him to evaluate which he told me to buy. He also did not charge me for either of these 2 services, and I did try to pay him. He is wonderful to deal with. Highly recommended.

I have used D.F.C. Auto Service on 73 Waverly Street - next to the "new" storage space. Very reasonable and more importantly - they will not sell you something you don't need. I believe they specialize in transmissions;

My wife and I have been taking our Toyotas to a former Lexus dealer mechanic who specializes in Toyotas, Lexuses and Hondas. He is very thorough, competent, honest and has always been much more cost competitive than the Toyota dealer where we bought our cars. I also appreciate that they have supported the community by sponsoring events for the Framingham Ed Foundation and Framingham Community Theater.
The owner and chief mechanic is Craig Dimidis and his shop is located right off of Concord St. in Saxonville.
Tibor Toth 1/23/09
I will gladly second the recommendation of Craig Dimidis: Dimidis & Sons, 12 Watson Place, Saxonville, 508-788-1011.
Peace,

I have a 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan that has had the ABS light on for a few months, when the check engine light came on this week - I finally contacted a mechanic.
I called Craig at Dimidis and Son's. He booked a time for the car to come in and suggested that I open and close my gas tank lid and see if that does the trick (it didn't).
The car was brought in, and I got a loaner (which was great because my daughter got sent home from school sick) he called within a few hours, let me know what he found to be the problem. Gave me a ball park price - bill was LOWER than quoted. Returned for my car, he told me about an issue that could cause problems in the future (heavily rusted coolant pipe) and then patiently showed me the two parts he replaced.
He compared two of the old parts to the new parts and explained how they broke down so I could SEE and LEARN about them. Who does that!??! =)
My husband (the weekend warrior car mechanic) was thrilled with the price for the amount of work he did. I felt great and completely NOT taken advantage of (like I do when I go to some shops) I actually learned some car stuff too!
I HIGHLY recommend them!
Kim Comatas 3/26/09
Amy, we highly recommend Craig Dimidis for all auto mechanic work. He's who we use. He is excellent and his prices are fair. He's honest and we've been working with him for over 7 years. He works on all makes of cars.
Lisa Shapiro 12/15/09
I second the recommendation for Craig. He has been working on my Ford Explorer for several years, and has gone to bat for me with Ford over an issue and helped to resolve it favorably for me.

Midas
Regarding Mufflers The important thing is who to not go to. Do not go to Midas. The Midas touch is to weld all components together. This means that when any of the components burn out on the exhaust system, the entire thing has to be replaced. They've been pulling this scam for years.

Murphy's Automotive
I didn't see a recommendation for Murphy's Automotive, right in Saxonville on Water St. I use them because I can leave the car and walk home, but they also do very good work. I'm not an expert, but do enough amateur car repair that I can tell when guys know what they're doing. They're not cheap (is anyone in this area?), but extremely thorough. They won't let you slide through an inspection with marginal equipment--which can be both a boon and an annoyance, I admit.
Mr Lynn Joiner 8/26/07
I live right around the corner from them and use them for almost all of my car repairs. They are excellent and thorough. I have never had any complaints in the 14 years I've been going there.
I would suggest that you make an appointment in advance to get the work done though. They are extremely busy and "walk-ins" get squeezed in when they can. This may only be a temporary situation for them as it is summer and some of the guys are taking vacation.
I realize that this is not always possible as was my situation last month. I had a "walk-in" emergency that required a replacement of the radiator/hoses and repair work to the right front axel and was without a car for 4 days.
I highly recommend them though for their professionalism and thoroughness.
Mike Bower 8/27/06
I have been using Murphy's Automotive since they opened and have been very satisfied. Over the years I've noticed a very low turn over of employees, most have been there as long as I can remember, a good indicator the employees are happy, happy employees generally provide better service and attention to detail.
If you want it done right, interact with honest and courteous individuals and not worry about being over charged, this is the place.
My only hesitation of recommending them is I don't want them to become so busy I cannot get an appointment!

Patriot Automotive

Gregg Canavan at Patriot Automotive has been repairing all my cars for over 15 years. There is no one more honest or talented that I have ever seen; and I have been dealing car repair since the Johnson administration. (That's Lyndon, not Andrew.) Gregg always stands behind his work, and he refuses to do work that he thinks is not in his customers' best interests.
Gregg's shop is on Rt. 20, on the Framingham-Sudbury line, not far from Sudbury Farms; so it is convenient to people on the north side of Rt. 9. Tell him Marty sent you, and I promise you will be treated well.

I recommended Frank over at Precision Auto long ago and he really is a master mechanic. I'm suspecting you'd be better off with a guy like Frank than with someone who only knows Fords or even specializes in Fords. The rule of thumb is to steer clear of dealers only unless there's a specialized tool that only a dealer has that your regular mechanic dosn't keep around.

Ron is a great mechanic with a great deal of integrity. His pricing is very reasonable, and, in 17 years, have never had a complaint about the quality of his work. He'll make an effort to squeeze you in if he can, even when he is busy, if the need is dire enough. "No problem, we'll take care of it," he always says. And he always does. For somethings, he sends them next door to his brother-in-law at Tosti's, which also is a great shop.

Southboro Auto Tech has provided the routine maintenance on my cars for over two years. Their service is prompt and the car is always returned cleaner than when I brought it in. They have the important perks available at the "big" auto service place where the cars used to be taken - no wifi, but who cares? I am very happy with the results. They are located on Route 30 near the intersection with Central Street.

Speen Street Automotive

But I would recommend Speen Street Automotive. They specialize in Subarus but Bobby and David are adept at nearly every make of car. Their knowledge of the inner workings of older models and ability to find a solution to almost any problem makes them the prices of auto repair. I recently topped 200K on my '97 Outback and the car is running like a fine Swiss watch, thanks to the care I've gotten from Speen Street.

For Mufflers
I used Speen Street Automotive for the first time yesterday. They got six excellent reviews on Angie's List.
So far so good: they were pleasant, got back to me quickly with the diagnosis, and spotted three things that would have made the car fail inspection next week, including a rotted exhaust pipe. I plan to keep using them.

In my mind there is no one more honest, reliable, fair priced than Ed Morriaty at Suburan Shell on Old Conn. Path. It's an owner operated service station and Ed has been there for almost 30 years. They also do stickers and you get a free car wash with a sticker inspection. Also one of the lowest gas prices around. How can you beat all that?
Ginny Marino 8/21/06
I don't know if he is a Ford expert, but Ed Moriarty at Suburban Shell on Old Conn Path works on ours and has often commented positively on Ford vehicles and congratulated us when we bought them. We always have a positive experience with him and he is a straight talker about what may be need to be done to your car.

Try the Getty station at the intersection of Rte.9 and Rte 16 in Wellesley. Larry Ng is the owner and he really knows Hondas.
Fred Gilbert 12/16/07
I can't say enough good things about Larry Ng's Auto Service (Getty Station)in Wellesley. We took our '03 Honda Odyssey there for a major 100k service milestone including timing belt, water pump, etc. His techs had it in and out in one short day with very little scheduling notice. I had read many people's favorable reviews of his place and this was my first time using this place. The place looks chaotic at first but it's really a well orchestrated dance of well trained technicians, parts being ferried about and constantly moving vehicles. I'll be going back for all my future service from now on.
By the way, the final bill for the 100k service was about 40% less than the dealer and Larry used all OEM parts!
