MOOREcol.04-14-05 . . . . . .40 Hed : Off to a unified start By BOB MOORE It's a new beginning and . . . . it looks good. I can say that about the "new Board of Selectmen." No inside information. Just the results. A vigorous campaign for "a change" and yet we have a new board, quietly, looking to the future, and saying nothing about what was. Not a word. We have to wait and see what the board under Chair Katie Murphy will tackle the many problems and needs facing the town - Downtown revitalization, housing, relations with the manager, traffic, transit connections, a master plan, etc. Look at that and think how much easier it can be starting in peace. You do recall the rumpus over our system. Personally, I saw the election as a chance to use the vote to keep the system. My mistake was in thinking residents might slacken and I pushed hard. They heard and the votes amassed by Dennis Giombetti and John Slasik make that clear. One other matter. The election of Stasik as vice chair on his return to public life and Murphy's step up to chair. Seems to reflect the board's temperament. By the way, Katie keeps the sessions moving smoothly. Now if the board can return to more frequent meetings with ears wide open, we'll be doing well. One other thing I've noticed. Giombetti put in a word for finding a way to handle the illegal immigrants' problem. And Jim and Joe Rizoli got a full hearing last week. So, we'll wait and see what perks. It's a good start. ____________________________________________-- You can reach Bob Moore at edmoore4@aol.com or at 1-508-620-1449.
