Zaftig's

I tried Zaftig's today and was not all that impressed. I got the pastrami and chopped liver sandwich with potato salad. The sandwich was just average. Not worth the $12.95 price tag on top of a cup of coffee costing $2.75. If came on amazing bakery bread rather than plain store bought bread that would have justified the cost a bit. The potato salad was mushy - tasted more like cold mashed potatoes with a couple of chunks rather than potato salad. Don't think I will be running back there.

We had Sunday breakfast at Zaftigs. Two adults & two boys, who ordered from the kids' menu. No buffet, no lox or anything fancy. Food quality was okay. Quantity of food was below average to average. It wasn't worth the price. The check after tip broke $60! For that price I expect: (a) amazing food, (b) a buffet of good food, or (c) lunch/dinner.

On the plus side, people there were friendly and thanked customers often for coming, which is welcome. I wish them well, but don't see how they will build up a regular clientele by maintaining the status quo.

Rein's Deli is good, but distant. We enjoy Kugel's for our occasional breakfasts out; will have to try them when in the mood for a deli lunch.

We went there this morning and I must say I will not be in any hurry to go back. My wife and I both were not impressed. We feet that Kugels is a better place for about 2/3 the cost.

Hi, I'm told that there has been a lot of talk going back & forth about Zaftigs vs Joan & Ed's. Zaftigs is a more modern deli and yes some of their prices are higher..... as they should be..... at the level that I should have raised them to. We were considered "high priced" at I had a lot of resistance to raising prices and the only way that I could possibly do that would have been to remodel. We weren't able to do that and that is one of the reasons that we decided to retire. They are very good operators and give them a chance to get organized. At this point everyone is comparing them with our deli and I just want to let it be known that we are very pleased with the new "incarnation" and wish them well. That being said...... we thank everyone for supporting us through all the years.
