Thanks for the kind words on Barbara's work. If I may correct one statement though, Barbara does both chair caning AND upholstery. She has done stools, ottomans, numerous chairs of all varieties, settees, etc. even a few motorcycle seats! Upholstery in fact has been the majority of her business.

Hi, all: Just FYI, Be Seated is terrific--it is Barbara Gatlin's home-based business, and she is very good. She rewove my Mom's dining chairs --it is tricky interweaving, you know, that produces rounded patterns--and Mom was very pleased (if you knew my mom, you'd understand)! She is indeed on Edgell, near the wonderful pocket park at Nobscot. (My point is, also, that she does caning, not upholstering.)

I know someone who is very good and reasonable. She used to work at the Fabric Place but started her own place. Her shop is in Hudson right near "Still Life" - the consignment shop on Tower St. She just did 2 chairs for me and they came out great.

I had some kitchen stools re-upholstered by a guy named Dave Sheehan. He did a great job for a great price. I had already found the fabric on line for a great price, but I'm pretty sure he can order it as well.

I highly recommend Harold Upholstery. He does small jobs and big jobs. He has recovered our 6 dining room chairs and our daughters 4 dining room chairs and has recovered a special ottomon. Very friendly, reasonable prices and he comes to the house if necessary.
