Bruce Rakusin--Cambridge Eye

Route 9 (WHERE??!!)

:-) I love Bruce Rakusin at Cambridge Eye on Route 9. I have bifocals and have gotten exams and glasses there several times. My son wears contacts and has done the same. Bruce is very thorough. Good Luck!

:-) It's a bit of a schlepp but I have had nothing but fabulous results with Dr. Deb Cohen in Medway. She's the ONLY person EVER to get my fit and prescription right on the first time, every time. I am on about my fourth pair of glasses (now progressive bifocals) with her and I never have to fiddle, go back and have anything adjusted, etc. And she's a total and complete sweetheart, too!

<:( Having had used the Cambridge For Eyes shop, happily, for years, I tried out the Framingham For Eyes shop for my first Rx for bifocals, about 3 years ago. I had to take them back three times for various reasons (and ultimately took 'em to Cambridge); lenses were off by 1/4 diopter in EACH eye (and the optician readily admitted this--and did not seem very sorry, or surprised!); after the final re-do, they still made me dizzy; my practitioner (who had originally wanted to make them, at a price that was around 50% higher) was unsympathetic and said that the "centers" were off or some such. Whatever it was, when he (my practitioner) made 'em, all of a sudden I could *see* and I had no more headaches/dizziness. So, no more For Eyes for me, at least not now that I am in a complex multifocal Rx. YMMV.

Lenscrafters

<:( I would, at all costs, avoid Lenscrafters. THEY STINK! I did get glasses there a few years ago and had to go back three times for them to get everything correct. The "professionals" there are anything but and the support staff are clearly following suit.

Studio Optics

Framingham, MA 01701-5223

<:( A few years ago I used Studio Optics next to Trader Joe's. I was unhappy with the quality of service there, which is why I chose Vision Care Specialists.

:-) I would like to recommend Steve Michaels at the Optical Place. We have been going to him for many years (since my son was 2 and he is 15 now). My son's lenses are not straightforward and he has always done a wonderful job. He has gone above and beyond for us over the years....For example, staying open a little later so that we could run over to fix the glasses that were wrapped around a fence post during backyard football. He takes care of my glasses and has even pleased my somewhat particular father with his trifocals.

:-) I have several glasses dispensed by Karyn Philblade with wonderful results. She has a huge array of choices for frames.

:-) The folks at Optical View are terrific. They have a huge selection of frames and can discuss pros and cons of the different lens choices. I've bought glasses from them for years and have always been happy with the results--including a few pairs of progressives which can be more challenging. I wonder if my friends who "can't wear progressives" would have a different attitude if they had gone to Optical View.

Framingham , MA 01701

:-) I can't say enough about the skill and professionalism of Scott Sullivan who owns Trinity Optical, in the Nobscot Plaza. I, too, wear progressive lenses, since I am at my computer a lot and am a fussy fit. I was amazed at Scott's ability to get it right the first time - perfect vision, perfect fit every time. Hours: Mon, Thurs, Fri: 10am-6pm Tue: 10am - 10am-7pm Sat:10am - 1pm Wed, Sun: closed

:-) I second the wonderful review for Scott at Trinity! He was more than accommodating and a small Framingham business to boot!

I have been a long-time customer of Trinity Optical and think the world of Scott Sullivan, the owner. He is meticulous, patient, and has many years of experience.

I'd like to add my recommendation for Trinity Optical.

Scott Sullivan, the proprietor, takes all the time needed to make sure your glasses are just right - as he did with me as I like the transition in my bifocals from distance to close-up a little lower than is customary. He also keeps an inventory of frames that were in fashion a few years in the past - something else I like because I don't look good in contemporary shape frames.

I just bought my fourth pair of regular glasses from him, and also two pairs of sunglasses. His service and prices are the best. Forget the big chains !

Dr. Paul Levine

John M. Abbondanza, OD, FCOVD

:-) They are on Route 9 (the Eastbound side) about a block after O'Leary's restaurant (near the Southboro/Framingham line). Both my husband and I have used them. They are knowledgeable, sensitive, and thorough. The medical doctors do the eye exams and the opticians are there in the glasses department to handle that portion.

You can certainly mention Jonathan and Lisa Shapiro referred you to them. We both have been examined by "Dr. John" and I have referred people to both him and Dr. Paul. I would highly recommend Dr. Abbondanza and Dr. Levine. The website, email and the telephone number is as follows:

:-) I was *very* happy with the exam, the selection of frames and the entire experience. Highly recommend.

:-) Our son had intermittent double vision that was getting worse. Their vision therapy program totally cured it. If you have a child who is clumsy or has reading problems, I highly recommend you have them check his/her vision. There is so much more to evaluate than the 20/20 vision test thingy.

Weston Optical

16 Boston Post Rd
Wayland, MA 01778
508-358-5330

:-) We've used Weston Optical (in Wayland--address and phone below) for three pairs of glasses with progressive lenses and various other things (clip-on sunglasses, etc.). They've been remarkably helpful, and have responded quickly and professionally whenever we've had any problem. They also have a very nice selection of frames. I believe they're a bit more expensive than the chains, but they stand by what they do and do quality work.
