My daughter has been taking voice lessons with Inga Synnestvedt.

She is wonderful with my 8 year old daughter. My daughter loves to go to her lessons. Inga works with the students on reaching their goals and uses music that they like. My daughter is has improved and is more confident since she started working with Inga. From my perspective as a parent, Inga has been exceptionally flexible in working with us not only in term of scheduling but also in the content of the lessons.

Penny-Wayne Shapiro runs the Wayland School of Music. She offers violin, viola, and cello. All there teachers have at least 10 years experience of teaching experience and also perform professionally.

My kids take piano, and so haven't had lessons there, but she has been in charge of the musical side of the concerts they have done at St. Patrick's Nursing Home (1 or 2 a year for the last 3 or 4 years). She determines the best key for each song depending on the instruments and abilities of the children who will be performing it (apparently while C is the easiest key for piano, it is not for strings), transposes the music if necessary, plays piano accompaniment (cold) for any child that needs it, tunes all the strings to the piano there, etc. She does a wonderful job interacting with the children and I would trust her to hire equally good teachers.

In response to two inquiries, I highly recommend PAC for instrument lessons of all types. My kids have been taking piano for a couple years with Josh and they love it and have made wonderful progress. PAC is located in the Danforth building in downtown Framingham and they have wonderful theater and music lessons of all types.

FYI the PAC 3-week summer theater workshop will culminate next week with 2 performances of Guys and Dolls at the civic league Thursday and Friday (8/21 and 8/22) at 7:30 pm. It looks like it's going to be a great show.

Dean Arvidson

I highly recommend a local man named Dean Arvidson. My children have been going to him for 3 years now. He is not only a great musician but he works with children in very unique ways that work miracles with my children. He gets them really excited with learning and playing. My children play the piano and just recently started guitar and voice for my daughter.

He started playing on the piano when he was 4 (in 1962), and started lessons when I was 5. He took private lessons for 14 years and has been playing ever since. He is an accomplished musician that teaches Piano, Guitar, Flute, Trumpet, Violin, Alto Saxaphone, and Voice. I am not certain about drums? He teaches out of his home, which is near Cushing, off of Winter Street. I can say to us he is amazing. We are so happy to have him as their musical instructor/mentor and now a great friend.
