My name is Shim Yoo. I've been homeschooling for the past 6 years and am now running a Jae H. Kim Tae Kwon Do Branch school in Ashland. We're located at 57 Pond Street. We are a smaller, more family oriented program focusing on individualized attention.

Children's classes are held daily from 4:00-5:30 and on Saturdays from 10-12:00. Teen/Adult classes are also held daily from 5:30-8:30 and on Saturdays from 11-2:00:

If you're interested please call me or email me and we can set up a time for you to come by to see our classes. If you're interested in general information about the Jae H. Kim Tae Kwon Do Institute please visit our website.

I look forward to hearing from you.

My daughters and I have been taking a tae kwon do class for about a year at the Jae Kim Studio in Ashland, right near the Market Basket plaza. We've really enjoyed it and think highly of Shim, who runs the studio, and the other instructors. My oldest daughter in particular has gained a lot of confidence and has set a goal of getting her black belt!

I asked Shim to write something up so I could post it here.

Best,

Boston Taekwondo Academy is really marvelous. I'm biased because I work and train there, but my son Sean started when he was 6, and still works out there, having earned his black belt a few years ago

The owner, Alberto Montrond, is AMAZING with children, teaching them skills that go way beyond kicking and self-defense.

There's more compete descriptions (and a video) to see on the site.

Good luck!

I enthusiastically agree! My two children (currently 9 and 11) and my husband have trained there for at least 3 years and we have found the experience to be invaluable. Students of all different ages, shapes, sizes and ability levels are warmly welcomed there. As a mom I highly value the positive character training that the children have received there around respect, discipline, confidence, etc. We have found the teaching to be terrific, including the attitude and approach of the teachers with the children. There are other TKD schools closer to us, but we are so attached to these teachers we're willing to drive a few extra minutes to see them.

Good luck!

Giorgio's Taekwondo

Giorgio's Taekwondo in Sudbury is where my kids have been going for years. They have programs for the very young kids. You can do a trial class, and then you sign up for 10 classes through Sudbury or Wayland parks and rec. After that, you just enroll at Giorgio's. At least that's the cheapest way to do it.

The other place they go is Giorgio's Taekwondo in Sudbury. In TKD, the kids spar, and break boards, and have a lot of fun. Giorgio's is a big studio with a lot of students. They are great with kids, and have a lot of instructors in each class so the kids have as much attention as they need. They have only been doing TKD for about 1.5 years now.

We visited a ton of MA schools when my son and neighbor's son wanted to do MA. We didn't visit Giorgio's in the 1st go around because it was too far away, but once my kids discovered it, they go as much as they can.

Oom Yung Doe

in Natick
508-370-9000

My kids go to two different martial arts at two different sudios, and we are very happy with both for different reasons.

They have been going to Oom Yung Doe kin Natick center for 5 years since they were 7 and 6 (boy and girl). OYD has an excellent kids program with lots of attention payed to them. It is several different martial arts wrapped into one thing, and it has a lot of Tai Chi forms, and other movements. It has the self defense component, but it is not the core, and there is no sparring for kids. It is fairly formal, and the kids have developed a lot of discipline at OYD. OYD is a small studio with small classes. If you try it out for a free lesson, make sure you take a lesson with Rob or Brad (the owners) to get a real sense of what it is like.

Seavey's Traditional Kenpo Juijitsu

885 Waverly St (Rt. 135),
very close to La Cantina Restaurant (near the Winter St. Intersection.)

My son goes to Seavey's.

We've had a really positive experience there. The instructors are phenomenal and patient. The kids learn skills while having a lot of fun. They also get a lesson at the beginning of every session on topics like respect, manners, paying attention to your parents, doing the right thing in tricky situations, etc. My son's coordination has improved tremendously.

They are also very affordable and offer different payment plans for the fees. They will provide a free class to kids who want to try it out to see if they are interested. I highly recommend them.
