Email Settings Tips
This is where we start describing to people how to affect settings on their mailers. We need this because everyones' mailers are different. We should end up with things that affect the ability to receive mail from lists and the ability to send in plaintext mode. We should end up with instructions for people on all kinds of different email interfaces, e.g., AOL, RCN, Verizon, Outlook, etc...
What is whitelisting and why do I care?
A whitelist is a list of addresses from whom you will accept email. This means that you will not accept any email from people who are not on that list. The mail that you do not accept is not put into your spam folder for later review; it is simply rejected and the person who sent it gets it sent back as rejected mail.
What is plaintext and why do I care?
All email that you receive from frambors or framcom is only allowed to contain plain text. This means that things like html, rich text, colors, fonts, sizes and special characters are not going to make it through. All attachments are stripped off and all text is converted to plaintext. Characters that are not in the set of characters that plaintext supports will get converted to a question mark. I recommend that you modify your email settings so that you never send anything but plaintext all the time.
AOL Whitelisting problems.
If you are subscribed to any mailinglist, you will have to deal with AOL whitelists.
To prevent your email from being rejected, you will need to modify your mail settings.
Log in to your AOL account and use the Keyword window to go to mail controls.
Look for all three spam filters and turn them all off. One of the three spam filters is the cause of mail that gets rejected.
Set your AOL Advanced filters to Medium.
- Save your setting.
