Michael Femia, Clean Sweep Chimney Services, did some work for us a few years ago. He inspected a broken and obsolete (1960s-era) fireplace damper, and replaced it with a spring-loaded cap on the top of the chimney, which was a welcome solution, as earlier a bird had gotten down the chimney and died. The price of the cap was $380 installed. He inspected the chimney and said it did not need cleaning, which to me says he's honest.

We used Kevin Crites to clean our chimney. After someone else came and told us we needed the chimney relined for several thousand dollars, Kevin came and said a lot of people get scammed that way. Said our chimney was fine and cleaned it. I can't recall what he charged, but I think it was in the vicinity of $130? Anyway, he's honest, and that's worth it.
Our oil company recommended him, btw.

We have used Master Chimney Sweepers, which has an office in Natick and a certified chimney sweep in Framingham:
We found them to be honest, knowledgeable, and responsible. While we haven't compared prices, we found them to be reasonable and have been repeat customers. If your main interest is price, you'll have to shop around to see how their prices compare, but I recommend them.

I am looking for a reliable company or individual to do some repair work on our chimney. I have used Metro West Chimney Service in the past and he has refused to return to check out the problem. The individual was Dave Whittaker at 508-480-0802. I definitely would not recommend him.

My neighbor John Palaima is a mason, and he helped me rebuild my chimney a year ago. People who I have referred him to have also been quite pleased with his work (understandably so, he does great work and more importantly has integrity).
He runs his own business, understands masonry inside and out, and is extremely hard working.
